Black History Month 2026
100 Years of National Commemorations
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2026 Black History Month programming as we commemorated 100 years of national Black History observances.
This centennial year invited our campus community to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the ongoing importance of teaching, studying, and honoring Black history. Our theme grounded the month in Underground Railroad quilt symbolism, using it as a framework to connect ancestral journeys toward freedom with students’ contemporary journeys toward educational freedom.
Throughout February, workshops, exhibits, dialogues, artistic performances, and community gatherings created space for reflection, learning, strategy, and collective care. Each event aligned with quilt symbols representing preparation, protection, direction, nourishment, and resilience—reminding us that freedom has always required both vision and community.
